Wastewater entering through a drain, toilet, or sink can carry harmful organisms and create electrical hazards. Keep children, pets, and unprotected occupants outside the affected space.

Wet weather may coincide with a backup. SPU, a plumber, a building representative, and a cleanup professional can still own different parts of the response.
Avoid toilets, sinks, showers, laundry, and dishwashing that may add flow. Do not enter sewage to reach a panel, appliance, valve, or floor drain.
Record the first return point, affected rooms, rain timing, current utility notice, property contact, contractor finding, and any SPU work-order reference.
What to observe now
Keep the notes factual. A visible clue can direct an inspection without proving what is hidden.
Prevent casual entry without stepping into or handling contaminated materials.
Stop household sources that could send more wastewater toward the backup.
Name the lowest drain or fixture where sewage became visible.
Give SPU the contractor's public-main or connection concern when one is supported.
Use appropriate help and document every material or room exposed.
