SPU's leak-check method compares meter readings while faucets and water-using appliances are off. Movement can support a leak inquiry, but it cannot identify the affected pipe or fixture.

Choose a dry, well-lit time when the household can stop water use. Rain, irrigation, shared meters, and building equipment can otherwise confuse what the interval represents.
Confirm what the meter serves, record all displayed digits and the time, maintain the same no-use conditions, then capture the second reading after the interval SPU describes.
Do not obstruct a sidewalk, lift unsafe covers, or operate a meter control unless it is the customer-operable top-shutoff type in current SPU guidance.
What to observe now
Keep the notes factual. A visible clue can direct an inspection without proving what is hidden.
Verify whether the meter covers one home, multiple units, irrigation, or another use.
Pause faucets, toilets, dishwasher, laundry, irrigation, and other known demand.
Capture the complete display and exact time without changing a control.
Repeat from the same position while the no-use conditions remain true.
Contact SPU when access, cover, valve type, or meter operation is uncertain.
